MATCH REPORT

Silsden came out on top with a 1-0 win in a tough BD derby with Campion at the 1st Glass Stadium yesterday.

Casey Stewart, fresh from a surprise mention in the Houses of Parliament earlier this week scored the games only goal with a close range finish in the first half.

The win is the Cobbydaler’s 12th consecutive victory in all competitions aswell as a 9th clean clean sheet for the campaign, a record that already far surpasses last season’s tally.

Jake Cassidy and Luke Brooksbank would both have opportunities earlier on with the former seeing an effort blocked whilst Brooky’s shot from a tight angle drifted wide of the far post.

The visitors might have felt aggrieved on 16 minutes when the ref denied what looked to be a clear penalty as the Campion defender handled the ball on the line but just minutes later Sils took the lead.

A brilliant flowing move saw Brooksbank pick out Ellis Hudson, the former Bantams winger beat his man before delivering the cut back to Stewart who made no mistake from inside the six-yard box.

Campion had the chance to level on 34 minutes as a corner found a free head at the far post but much to Sils fans relief the header landed onto the roof of the net.

Hudson continued to make his trademark driving runs in the second half, his low shot looked to be travelling into the bottom corner before a stunning save down low to his left from Ed Wilczynski denied him.

Brooksbank’s curling effort on 74 minutes was also well saved by the home sides stopper as Silsden looked to find that crucial second goal to put the game to bed.

In the end however it turned out Stewart’s strike would be enough, some solid defending at the end from the Sils backline allowed them to see out the game and bring yet another crucial three points back home to Keighley Road.

There’s a break from league action this Tuesday with a trip to NCEL Div One leaders Horbury Town for the League Cup Third Round.
