MATCH REPORT
In a battle between the NCEL Premier and First Divison league leaders it would be Silsden who came out 2-1 winners against Horbury Town in the League Cup Third Round.
With a big local derby on the horizon this weekend, Matt Cavanagh rang the changes but it would be regular number 9 Kayle Price who bagged both Sils goals either side of halftime.
James Cusworth’s 79th minute strike did make for a nervy ending but our defensive line rode out the game and secured our passage to the Quarter Finals.
Both sides tested the opposing keepers early on, Jake Maltby firing a low effort into Paul Hagreen’s gloves whilst Billy Mole’s strike was easily saved by Callum Bradbury.
There would be drama on 23 minutes as Price was brought down right on the edge of the box, the referee opted for a penalty rather than a freekick with the in-form striker stepping up to take himself.
Despite hitting his spot kick with power, the ball ricocheted of the post and out of danger.
Price wouldn’t be disheartened with the miss however and continued to get into good positions in and around the box.
He was rewarded for his efforts when a positive move found wing-back Cameron Clark inside the area, his square ball allowed KP to sweep home from just inside the six-yard box.
Maltby went close to doubling the lead just before the break as a neat Tom Greaves flick set him free in the box but Hagreen made himself big to make the stop.
If Price’s first goal was a poachers finish, his second was a brilliant solo effort.
Latching onto a loose ball, he used his pace to dazzle the defender, race into the box before firing an inch perfect finish beyond the keeper.
At the other end, a brilliant goal line clearance from Sam Kilner denied the hosts a goal back on 60 minutes.
Bradbury was having a great game in the Sils goal, diving to his left to push away a flicked header before climbing highest to collect the following corner.
Cusworth did eventually grab Horbury a goal as he finished a well worked move with a well-struck half volley on 79 minutes.
Price almost grabbed himself a hatrick late-on but volleyed his effort over the bar.
13 wins in a row then for the Cobbydalers and into the hat for the next round.
Up next is a tough derby trip to Thackley this Saturday
