MATCH REPORT

Silsden made it four wins from four defeating NCEL Premier Division table toppers Golcar United 2-1 at the Skye Direct Stadium yesterday.

After falling behind to an early Ollie Russon strike, the Cobbydaler’s found their rhythm and levelled through former Golcar striker Kayle Price.

There was some controversy surrounding Tom Greaves 74th minute winner with the referee overuling the linesman’s offside decision, but that will matter little to Matt Cavanagh and his Silsden side who climb to 3rd in the table.

The league leaders got of to a lightning fast start, a cross from the left was smashed onto the post by Alfie Wilkinson with Russon gratefully tapping home the rebound.

It should have been two only seven minutes into the game, Callum Petch heading wide with acres of space at the back post.

That miss would be punished on 17 minutes, Greaves’ acrobatic attempt fell at the feet of Price whose deflected effort crept in for his 11th goal of the campaign.

Set-pieces were proving threatening for Silsden in the first half, Harry Coates heading over on a number of occasions following Toby Jeffrey’s pin point corner deliveries.

The player’s from both sides would have been happy to see the half-time whistle as heavy rain began to fall over Huddersfield, thankfully the 15 minute interval was enough for the rain to subside and the match continued in relatively dry conditions.

Luke Brooksbank had the first opportunity of the second half as he flung himself at Price’s cross but just couldn’t make clean contact on the diving header.

At the other end Wilkinson let a shot go from the edge of the area but dragged it narrowly wide of the far post.

It would be another Jeffrey set-piece that found Silsden’s winner on 74 minutes as his cross found Ross Daly unmarked at the far post.

Daly’s touch led to a scramble inside the six-yard box with Greaves on hand to slide home and give Silsden the lead, with the referee overturning the lino’s initial decision to disallow the goal.

Price had the chance to wrap up the game late on but a good save from Harry Stead denied him whilst Callum Bradbury was also called into action to deny a fierce shot at the near post.

Silsden’s win sees them continue to climb the table, sitting just 1 point behind Albion Sports with a game in hand.

There’s a break from league action on Tuesday with a trip to Yorkshire Amateur in the opening round of the West Riding County Cup.
