MATCH REPORT

Late winners are becoming something of a regular occurrence down at The Regal Interiors Stadium as Kayle Price’s 93rd minute header secured a 3-2 win for Silsden over Knaresborough Town.

The visitors twice lead in the game as an Aaron Pilkington strike in the first half was cancelled out by Sils winger Ellis Hudson before Town captain Ben Parkes put them back in front.

Price looked to have snatched a point with an 87th minute equaliser, and it was a point the Cobbydalers would have perhaps been happy to take, but Price had other ideas and his stooping stoppage time header ensured the home side the victory.

Knaresborough have been something of a bogey side for Silsden in recent seasons and that trend looked as if it would continue as Pilkington finished a lovely Town move to open the scoring on the half hour mark.

Visitors striker and Gibraltar international Adam Priestly went close to adding to the scoreline, heading onto the post from a set piece and curling a shot wide from the edge of the box.

Whatever Matt Cavanagh said to his players at the break clearly had an impact, as Silsden levelled the game on 53 minutes.

There was a stroke of luck involved as a miss-hit clearance rebounded into Hudson’s path and the winger made no mistake in slotting the ball into the corner.

As the half continued, tackles were flying in from both sides with multiple bookings dished out by the referee in what would have been a very profitable game for the FA.

Possibly against the run of play, Knaresborough retook the lead through captain Parkes as he latched onto a defensive mistake before unleashing a low strike that found the bottom corner.

Silsden knew they had to attack and when a long ball found Price through on goal there was only going to be one outcome as he calmly rounded the keeper before placing the ball into the empty net.

Price’s scoring wasn’t done there however.

Subsitute Toby Jeffrey launched a long throw into the box only to see it cleared back to him, he volleyed the ball back in where Mo Conteh flicked on towards a diving Price at the back post who duly headed home to spark more ecstatic scenes at Keighley Road.

The win sees the Cobbydaler’s climb to 4th in the NCEL Premier Division table with a visit to 3rd placed Golcar awaiting them on Saturday.
