MATCH REPORT

A feisty Bradford derby clash between Silsden and Albion ended in a goalless stalemate down at the Regal Interiors Stadium last night.

Both sides had their chances but neither team could break down the stubborn defences and in the end a draw seemed a fair result.

We looked to take the game to our visitors in the early exchanges.

Kayle Price and Luke Brooksbank combined well down the right wing, the latter able to get his shot off inside the box but it was straight at Lion’s keeper Jordan Porter.

Harry Coates was a lick of paint from opening the scoring on nine minutes after he drove forward from centre half before hitting a low strike that bounced back off the upright.

Albion hit back with chances of their own with the Sil’s defence scrambling to clear following some pinball inside the penalty area before an eventual block allowed us to clear.

Silsden then got back on the front foot and Price thought he had opened the scoring 25 minutes in, lashing home inside the box but unfortunately the linesman’s flag was already raised.

Into the second half and the game took on a more aggressive with a number of yellows for both sides, this did however mean the chances seemed to dry up.

The visitors would have half a sight of goal on 69 minutes, Nathan Cartman turning and firing a shot wide of the target from what was a difficult angle.

Our best opportunity came from a floated Casey Stewart freekick, Coates won the flick on with Ross Daly unable to make proper contact with the ball at the back post.

With neither side able to find a late winner, the game ended 0-0.

There’s still positives to take from the game for Sils however, another solid defensive display even without the suspended Jake Cassidy makes it 4 clean sheets from a possible 5 to begin the season.

We’ve got more football to enjoy this weekend with the visit of Atherton Collieries to the Regal Interiors Stadium this Saturday in the FA Cup Preliminary Round.
