MATCH REPORT

There was derby delight for Silsden yesterday as three second half strikes saw them run out 3-0 winners over Thackley in front of a bumper crowd at the Regal Interiors Stadium.

453 spectators watched on as The Cobbydalers put the Dennyboy’s defence to the sword with three goals in 12 minutes courtesy of Ellis Hudson, Kayle Price and Luke Brooksbank.

At the other end of the pitch, the Sils defence looked comfortable picking up their third clean sheet in four games, also helped by the impressive influence of eventual Man of the Match Mo Conteh in midfield.

It would be a slightly cagey start from both sides in the opening moments, with the first real chance of the game falling to Price after 22 minutes.

The in-form striker has scored in all of his previous three games and was denied brilliantly by the legs of Thackley keeper Luke Wilson after finding space around the penalty spot.

Just three minutes later Price was involved again, his slide rule pass found Brooksbank who lofted into the back of the net only to be denied by the linesman’s flag.

Thackley weren’t without their opportunities however, former Sils striker Josi Bradshaw went inches from opening the scoring when his cross-shot drifted agonisingly wide of the far post with Ben Grech-Brooksbank lurking.

Despite going into halftime goalless, Silsden wasted little time in racing into a three goal lead after the break.

A stunning strike on 56 minutes broke the deadlock, Price flicked on a header into the path of Hudson who smashed home a left footed half-volley from around 25 yards out.

The second came just 8 minutes later.

Price would make it four in four with a superb finish, latching onto a loose ball before shifting the ball onto his left boot and smashing it into the roof of the net.

Brooksbank then added a quick third after some neat Sils football on the edge of the box, Cromack’s low cross found former Dennyboy Tom Greaves and despite Wilson’s initial save, Brooksbank was on hand to rifle home.

Silsden would have further opportunities to add to the scoreline with both Casey Stewart and Toby Jeffrey going close late on but it remained 3-0.

It’s only early but it’s been a positive start to the season with three wins in four, seeing us sit second in the NCEL Premier Division.

A busy week awaits at the Regal Interiors Stadium with another local derby against Albion on Tuesday followed by an FA Cup clash with Atherton Collieries on Saturday.
