Match Report
We kicked off our 25/26 season in style with a 4-1 win over Handsworth in the FA Cup Extra Preliminary Round yesterday.
In a fairly even first half the Ambers initially took the lead through Toby Kenyon’s stooping header before Cobbydaler’s talisman Kayle Price equalled the scores from the spot just before the break.
Sils began to pull away however in the second half, controlling the game and securing a convincing victory with a brace from Luke Brooksbank and another strike from Price.
The result sees us with a home tie on Saturday 16th August against Ramsbottom United in the next round.
Following a nervy opening 15 minutes, Sam Barker thought he had opened his Sils account after tapping into an empty net on 17 minutes only to see it ruled out for offside.

Familiar opponents from our time in the NCEL, the hosts always make for a tough game and that would be proven when they took the lead on 21 minutes through Kenyon’s header.
Handsworth weren’t far away from adding to their lead as both Mitch Dunne and Harry Jessop went close whilst at the other end Dylan Parkin made a superb stop to deny Price.
Momentum would flip on its head when Jerome Greaves was brought down in the box just before the break, Price stepping up and dispatching his penalty high above a diving Parkin.
That goal gave us the boost we needed as we pushed on in the second half in search of the lead.
Although it took some time, that second goal did eventually come on 67 minutes as good work from Greaves saw the ball drop to the feet of Brooksbank on the edge of the area who caught the ball sweetly and rifled home into the side netting.

The winger then added to his tally just 10 minutes later, Jordan Carroll breaking into the box before squaring for a simple tap in at the back post.
Price put the gloss on the scoreline just moments later as new signing Isaac Robinson was initially denied by Parkin only for the ball to drop to the striker to sweep home his second of the game.
Perhaps a slightly favourable scoreline in the end following such a close first half but the Cobbydaler’s got the job done in the end and progress in the FA Cup.
Next up is an away trip to Emley for the NPL East season opener on Friday evening.
