MATCH REPORT

3-2 is becoming a familiar scoreline for Silsden fans this season as they picked up another three points with a win over Pickering at the Regal Interiors Stadium last night.

The Cobbydalers looked to be in cruise control in the opening stages as an Ellis Hudson spot kick and a close range Kayle Price strike gave us a two goal advantage but the Pikes hit back on 39 minutes through Joe Wood.

Pickering then levelled the tie just 10 minutes after the restart with George Brown sweeping home a flowing move, but the lads were determined to make it 11 wins in a row and Price once again popped up with a close range finish from a corner.

It would take just nine minutes for the scoring to be opened after Hudson was brought down by Pickering keeper Alfie Burnett, the former Bantam’s winger stepped up to slot home as he so often does from twelve yards.

Just 5 minutes later and we doubled our lead, Harry Coates powering a downward header towards goal only for Burnett to spill into Price’s path who tapped home on the goaline.

Luke Brooksbank was looking to make an impact at both ends, his shot from the angle drifted just wide of the target on the half hour mark whilst his great block denied the visitors a goal back moments later.

Pickering were a side playing at a much higher tempo than their league position might suggest however and they capitalised on a misplaced pass just before the break as Wood swept the ball into the corner.

Momentum continued to swing the way of the visitors after the interval as a lovely move was eventually finished off by Brown from just inside the box.

We would find ourselves back in front on 65 minutes.

In almost a carbon copy of the second goal, a Coates header found its way to KP on the line who had the simple task of poking home his 13th goal of the campaign.

Despite being against the run of play, that goal seemed to swing the game back in our favour as Price and Tom Greaves sent efforts over and wide respectively.

Both keepers were in action late on, Callum Bradbury was forced to make an unconventional tip round his post following a curling effort whilst a superb double stop from Burnett denied Brooky late on.

Whilst it wasn’t a perfect performance from Sils, it’s another crucial three points that stretch the winning run to eleven games and see us remain top of the table.

There’s a tough test coming up next as we visit Campion for a local derby fixture this Saturday.
