MATCH REPORT

A comprehensive 4-1 win over Winterton at the MKM Stadium yesterday saw us climb to the summit of the NCEL Premier Division table.

In a dominant first half, goals from Jake Cassidy and Luke Brooksbank giving us a two goal advantage before Toby Jeffrey and Ellis Hudson took us out of sight in the second.

Despite a late Ranger’s goal, it was a comfortable victory in the end, our 7th win in a row too.

We were on the front foot right from the off, Jeffrey shooting over from outside the box just seven minutes in followed by Brooksbank lashing wide on the turn.

Cassidy and Hudson also went close in the opening 15 minutes before the deadlock was finally broken.

Jeffrey’s corner was met with a sweetly struck volley by Cassidy that hit a defender and found its way into the roof of the net for his second goal in as many games.

Brooky and Kayle Price linked up for our second of the evening, a lovely one-two on the edge of the hosts box left the former with space to shoot and he picked his spot brilliantly into the bottom right corner.

Straight after the break the scoring continued, having barely had time to get back to my seat (admittedly delayed by halftime hospitality), Jeffrey had arrived at the back post to poke home his first goal in Red and Black.

An unfortunate handball from the Rangers fullback gave us the opportunity to increase our advantage from the spot. Hudson taking on responsibility and slotting home for 4-0.

With the game pretty much settled, Cav took the opportunity to rotate the team. Substitute Tom Greaves found himself 1v1 with the keeper soon after coming on but sent his effort high over the target.

On 76 minutes the hosts pulled one back, Joe Hare finishing off a neat Winterton move and he could have had a second were it not for a smart clearance off the line by Lewis Morgan.

Whilst we may not have kept the clean sheet, there’s still plenty to be happy about following the win. Top of the league with one of the best defensive records in the division.

That record will be put to the test with a tough away trip to second placed Penistone Church on Saturday, all away support is appreciated for what should be a tough clash at the Parker Roofing Memorial Ground.
