MATCH REPORT

Silsden continued their winning run with a 1-0 victory over Hallam at the Regal Interiors Stadium yesterday.

In an end-to-end game, both sides created a number of clear cut opportunities but it wasn’t until the second half when a Jake Cassidy header proved to be the winner.

With five consecutive league victories, the Cobbydalers climb to 3rd in the NCEL Premier Division, opening up a gap of 8 points on the playoff chasing pack.

Both keepers would be called into action in the opening 10 minutes, Silsden stopper Callum Bradbury denying Callum Ward before Hugo Warhust held onto a Luke Brooksbank effort.

Harry Coates was having a big impact at both ends in the first half, his crucial block denying the visitors the opener after just 10 minutes whilst his header from a corner soon after was once again well held by Warhurst.

The back and forth nature continued throughout the opening 45, Ward again testing Bradbury with a first time volley who was able to hold onto the shot.

Silsden’s best moments of the half came on 37 minutes as Brooksbank’s deflected shot from the edge of the box was tipped behind for a corner.

Coates met the set-piece and his headed effort beat Warhurst but couldn’t beat the Hallam defenders on the goaline.

There would be time for one more Sils opportunity before the break as Ellis Hudson drove towards the penalty area and fired a shot over the crossbar.

The frantic action of the first half dimmed slightly in the second half, although Silsden’s threat from corners was becoming more apparent with Coates again meeting a Casey Stewart delivery only to see his shot blocked and cleared.

A breakthrough would eventually come for the home side, another set-piece situation, this time met by Cassidy who powered home his header from just inside the six-yard box.

Kayle Price would have the chance to double the advantage soon after as his volleyed effort drifted narrowly wide of the far post.

Hallam would have pulled level were it not for a superb diving save from Bradbury, who clawed away a curling strike by James Cadman.

As the game entered its final minutes, Price was inches away from putting Sils out of sight with his header rattling Warhurst’s crossbar.

Despite some late pressing from the visitors, they were unable to find a leveller and the Cobbydaler’s can celebrate their 3rd win in what has been a great week for the team.

There’s now a run of three away games for Silsden, starting with a long away trip on Wednesday to Winterton, before a tough game at the league leaders Penistone on Saturday.
