MATCH REPORT

A late Tom Greaves winner sparked wild scenes at the Regal Interiors Stadium in Silsden’s 3-2 win over 10-man Golcar yesterday.

Golcar’s George Doyle quickly went from hero to zero in the first half having initially opened the scoring on 28 minutes, before an awfully-timed challenge on fullback Sam Kilner saw him sent for an early shower by the referee.

Cobbydaler’s captain Ross Daly bagged his first goal of the season soon after the break but Aflie Wilkinson’s stunning volley gave the visitors a shock lead once more.

Silsden kept going though and Casey Stewart’s persistence allowed him to level the scores with 20 minutes to go, he would then turn provider with a stunning early cross to pick out Greaves who slid home the winner in added time.

The game got off to a slow start, with the first real opportunity of not falling to Doyle just before the half-hour mark, Golcar’s prolific striker made no mistake in tapping home from close range to open the scoring.

There would be a chance for the home side to respond just moments later when a back pass was handled by the keeper.

Former Golcar striker Kayle Price’s low shot from the indirect freekick was deflected by Cody Cromack but Harry Stead did well to make the save on the goaline.

Doyle’s red card just before the interval completely changed the game however as his shocking challenge on Kilner left the referee with little choice but to send him off.

Daly wasted little time in restoring parity after the break as a set-piece proved dividends for the home side, the Sils skipper forcing home from practically on the goal line.

A stunning strike from Wilkinson would bring the 10-men visitors back ahead on 62 minutes as his left-footed effort from range kissed the inside of the post before nestling into the bottom corner of the goal.

Silsden would have to be persistent if they wanted to beat this tough Golcar side who were flying high at the top end of the NCEL Prem table and that was proved no more than when Stewart found himself on the edge of the penalty area.

After rustling his way through a number of determined defenders, the winger eventually got his shot away that somehow squirmed under the body of Stead for the leveller.

With their tails up and the man advantage, Silsden switched to a back three in an effort to press for the winner.

Substitute Greaves saw his header cleared off the line before the follow up from Luke Brooksbank rattled the frame of Stead’s goal.

Harry Coates and Price we’re next to go close with an effort saved and a shot wide respectively.

It took a moment of magic from Stewart to unlock the stubborn Golcar defence, his perfectly whipped cross evaded a number of bodies in the centre where the onrushing Greaves poked home from inside the six-yard.

A sense of both relief and elation then for the home side, with the win sending them up to 2nd in the table on 21 points from their opening 11 games.

Two league games to look forward to this week for Sils, starting with an away trip to Goole on Tuesday before hosting Knaresborough in this Saturday’s fixture.
